Bloomington Half Marathon race report

So smug ( who is not very trash anymore )woke up at 6 a.m. Ate a peach and went downtown to the Indiana Running Company, where the registration and start took place. Nice to see so many runners so early in the morning, and from what smug could see, there would be a fast field. Start coming up at 7.30, and lots of bare tops with sixpacks where seen. Smug thought, wow. They have got to be fast. Nice very non-smug atmosphere, noone was discussing time, mile repeats etc. Just a friendly bunch of people. Humidity was around 65-70% at start, and around 75 F heat. After start, smug found himself up front, and realized that noone was rushing. Two runners seemed very strong, and they soon took off. Smug ended up running with a very nice guy called Oscar, with whom he would run the entire course. The course itself can be described as very hilly. At least 6 big hills. Smug would like to thank the team for all Hammarbybacken training sessions. Those helped smug a lot. Stomache felt good during the whole race, and smug drank water and had 2 gels. Kept a steady pace with Oscar, who did not only give water sips to smug, but also helped smug not to run off course.

the K times were as follow:

4.29

4.13

4.23

4.38

4.22

4.21

4.20

4.26

4.14

4.12

4.17

4.22

4.22

4.25

4.17

4.07

4.29

4.11

4.10

4.08

smug felt really tired around 14-15 K, but managed to pull it through to the end. Let Oscar go 800 m before finish, and came in on a 4th place at 1.29.55!

Afterwards, hung out with nice people in the finish area in Bryan Park ( which is 300 m from my house ), ate vegan burgers, fruit and stuff.

Including in the 10$ registration fee, smug recieved a pair of socks, the food and a gel.

So, a pretty nice race and a good indicator of the form of smug.

Awesome! That’s a new club record isn’t it? Some fast K splits you got there too. Very inspiring to hear about your success overseas and hopefully it will inspire me to run my best in all autumn races coming up. You might also be interested to hear that we have a new runner running for Smug Runners at Lidingöloppet. Mr Ulf Troeng.

    @ Trash:

HAHAHA! That’s such good news. So Smug Runners will have a top 50 place at LL?
Send my best wishes to Mr Troeng, and make sure that he’ll post a race report here!

Edit: It’s nice to search on LL’s website, write Smug Runners on “forening” and you’ll find 3 hits. That has got to be a record…
